ABOUT FLAT-TO-WALL HANGING
Tapestries
hung in the flat-to-wall ‘European
Style’ provide a 1/8 inch air space
between the wall and your tapestry .. You
will never experience mildew or mold on
tapestries hung flat- to- the- wall, as
mildew/mold requires a continuous wet condition
(such as a sauna or a leaking cellar wall
). This is the way tapestries have been
hung in European homes for over 800 years
.Hung in normal rooms today - on stone,
drywall, sheetrock, brick, adobe, wood paneling
etc, your textile will ‘breathe’
like all textiles have for centuries.
2. Lets look at Quality!
Are all tapestries created equal?
No, all tapestries are not created equal
! Like carpets, tapestries vary in weave,
density (thread counts per square inch),
detail in design, quality of fiber content
and whether the image has been computer
generated )or woven on looms in the old
method .Computer generated tapestries have
a very limited range of colors and resolution
in the detail rendering and often are only
'readable' in large sizes. We guarantee
our quality because we only purchase directly
from the top weavers in Belgium, France
and Italy. We do not sell computer generated
, coarse or loosely woven tapestries. Being
in the tapestry business for over 20 years
(in the USA & Europe) we know which
quality weavers to buy from and which weavers
produce the same designs in a cheaper version.
3. If a design looks
the same, is it really the same?
Of course, common sense in our day tells
us that, as the saying goes "there
is nothing of quality that cannot be cheapened!"
Almost all classic tapestry designs, being
over 100 years old, are ' public domain'
which means any weaver can produce any quality
of any design at any time. We know, we receive
solicitations of "inferior samples"
all the time! It's like Mozart's music -
it can be played by a high school band or
the London Symphony with very different
results. Heirloom tapestries and Aubusson
Carpets are Music to Your Eyes because we
only offer top quality - no inferior, computer
generated sublimations or loosely woven
look-alikes. So, you can expect and get
more from Heirloom. We guarantee it with
our exclusive Free
Return Shipping.
4. Why is there such
a wide range of prices for Hand Woven Tapestries?
That is because there is a difference in
the weave! Only Heirloom offers two grades
of hand woven tapestries, and identifies
each. Our Heirloom Premium Plus* heavy
weight/ fine weave tapestries are exclusive
to Heirloom European Tapestries(tm)in their
unique designs their premium quality is
unmatched. They are specially woven for
Heirloom installations in high-end hotels,
offices and fine residences world wide.
They are hand woven with a heavier 100%
New Zealand wool yarn and a denser and finer
weave. The result is a more finely detailed
tapestry with a greater, more subtle range
of colors and an inviting thickness that
is tangible to the eye and the touch. Of
course it takes more wool and more time
and more talent to produce these Heirloom
Premium Plus* tapestries- hence the higher
value pricing. The Premium Heavy Weight
tapestries are also woven with 100% New
Zealand wool .They have good detail, excellent
color and provide incredible value for money.
They represent an excellent investment in
quality for generations and are value priced
from the weavers direct to you. Both qualities
are clearly identified on our web site:
both meet Heirloom's high standards for
quality and will last many generations.
You choose.

5. What about the weave
of Aubusson carpets?
High grade wool combined with a tight weave
(higher count of threads per square inch)
results in a heavier, denser and higher
resolution Aubusson Carpet. In our Aubusson
Carpets it means thickness, flat woven (not
blocked) and longevity. After all, you will
be walking on an Aubusson for a long time
and you do not want to see the high traffic
areas become thread bare or curling at the
corners. We use authentic New Zealand wool
and the tightly woven, thick, finely detailed
Aubusson carpet will remain a quality asset
to your home and family.
6. Is what you see on
the computer screen what you really get?
Every effort is made by us to give you accurate
internet color. However, home or office
computer monitors vary(even high resolution
monitors). On a screen, what may look like
the same color or design, is often 'off
color' and lacking in visual detail in reality.
That is why Heirloom recommends that you
order our printed
color catalog today. It is fully refundable
with your first purchase,(you will get it
in 3 days) and it will give you a much more
real picture to help you make the best decision.
Like all matters of quality, there is cheap,
good, better and best. You can count on
Heirloom for the best.

7. I can't decide which
tapestry would look best in my home or office,
can you help?
Our in-house designers and interior decorators
can help you decide which tapestry, size
, color, and quality would best suit your
environment. Each home or office is unique-
everything from the furniture you chose
to the image or impression you wish to create.
Talk to the experts, we can help you visualize
what might look best and what suits your
pocket book (of course).
8. How much do your tapestries
cost?
Prices vary from $120 to $7000 and more.
The price depends on the complexity of weave,
fiber content (wool, cotton, silk screened
or hand woven in high grade new Zealand
wool and silk), density of weave, size and
the number of colors in the tapestry. Since
we purchase directly from the weavers, we
pass on the savings to you for the best
quality product available in the market
today.
9. Which is best then,
wool or cotton?
Well, wool is the most traditional. The
more expensive the tapestry, the higher
grade the wool and the more threads per
square inch. Wool provides lushness, texture
and tactile qualities along with added life.
Cotton has been used since the 19th century;
it is less expensive and provides a smooth
luster and fidelity of color that compares
very favorably to wool.
10. How about Hand wovens,
how do they compare to jacquard wovens?
Hand wovens are created similar to the antique
tapestries. One thread at a time is painstakingly
woven by 2-3 weavers sitting at a loom.
Some of these hand woven tapestries take
months to weave (depending on the size and
intricacy of the design). The jacquard woven
wool tapestries are less expensive (because
it is not as labor intensive and take less
time to weave) but are equally elegant and
high quality (at Heirloom we only carry
the best jacquard woven wool tapestries).
11. What is a silk-screened
(serigraphed) tapestry?
These are carefully painted images of old
tapestries reproduced on irregularly woven
linen/wool. They are available in large
sizes and achieve a certain faded look i.e.
an antique appearance which can be ideal
to complement antiques where a 'fresh' woven
tapestry may appear too new.
12. What size should
I consider?
We carry over 2400 sizes from 20" x
20" (cushion size) through to 20 feet
x 12 feet. Even longer custom tapestry adaptations
can be supplied.
13. How long is delivery?
Heirloom delivers in 4-10 days depending
on the time of year.
14. How do you ship?

shipping arrangements, including calling
you on the shipping day, can be arranged.

you would like to try another tapestry at
